Yes its a tool for checking the activity report of the sites. It takes into account all types of downloads also. It will show you the crawling stats in graphical shape but not in numbers.if graph upward increase the crawling rat is high and if graph downward its mean site crawling rate is lower

Search engines have software that "crawls" websites online, they do this so they can index your websites pages & subsequently list those pages (URL's) on their websites (directories) in the appropriate section of their directories (such as Google, Yahoo, Bing etc.)

This process is called "crawling" and you can check in most analytic's dashboards, which sites have visited or "crawled" your websites pages.
If for example, you don't update you site very often, your crawl rate will drop significantly, as the crawler know nothing has been added in a while.

Update your site often, keep the crawlers interested in you web pages!

A fast crawl rate is almost always desirable. That means the bots can index your site more easily and more quickly. And if your site gets more attention from Googlebot, you'll likely earn a higher SERP ranking. In a nutshell, that's why the Crawl Stats data is so important.

The Crawl Stats report (for websites only) provides information on Googlebot's activity on your site for the last 90 days. These stats take into account all content types that we download (such as CSS, JavaScript, Flash, and PDF files, and images).

Where a spider(google bot, other bots) visit your website to check and value the content you have on your site on a regular basis, the stats formed by the frequency is called crawl stats.

Google's ability to fetch and crawl web pages is incredibly fast and efficient, the crawl stats provides insights for “Pages crawled per day” “Kilobytes downloaded per day” and also “Time spent downloading a page (in milliseconds)” and all these statistics are important to view and understand especially if your website ..
